To browse the list of stations the forward/Stations button has to be pressed first. This opens the list of stored stations which can be browsed by turning the rotary knob left and right. A different station can be selected by pushing in the knob. This works well but if you forget to press the Stations button first you’ll find yourself changing the volume. Elan One includes features such as alarms and sleep timer, making it perfect for a range of different locations around the home. Elan One can be powered by the supplied USB power cable or with 4xAA batteries.

Elan One produces surprising audio performance from a compact form factor. A 3-watt full range speaker powered by a digital amplifier ensures audio plays loud and clear. With 8 EQ settings, including your own personal mode, you can easily tweak the audio output to make all genres of music sound amazing. The Pure Elan Connect+ isn’t really designed for parties or even BBQs, although it does a reasonable job outdoors. However, even with basic stereo imaging from its two speakers, the 3W units don’t provide much power. Another point to note about the Pure Elan BT3 portable, is that it’s one of the few DAB+ radios in its price range that comes equipped with not only Bluetooth connectivity but a full-colour display too.

Note that there is a home button, but it merely takes you to the hub screen for the source you’re already on. You have to hit the source button to reach the ‘real’ home screen that hosts four icons: internet radio (a globe), DAB (the DAB logo), FM radio (an image of a small radio) or Bluetooth (the Bluetooth logo). If you mainly listen to DAB radio then basic Bluetooth speakers can be a bit of a fiddle. Cue the Revival Petite, which combines both and can be used anywhere. Each channel features a colourful display that shows an icon and scrolling text, although the text is reduced to a size where most of it can be presented at once. Out of the box the radio sounds reasonably good for a radio at this price. Music sounds a little bass heavy and when tuned into Heart on DAB digital radio the bass can be too imposing and the vocals sound a bit dull.
