About this deal
I'm sure there will be a solution and proper gloves (made by all manufacturers - from Marmot to Versace) will work with touchscreens. But it isn't here yet. September 4th update:- Another YouTube reviewer, the POV Photo Guy, said the E-P7 image quality and colors are excellent in this reviewof the E-P7. I agree with him as both my Pen-F and the E-P7 have good image quality and color. For example, See this short article about the EP-7. My personal opinion is that forum members lay much to much emphasis on the dislike of how an LCD folds (selfy mode) there's much more to this camera. And yes it helps if more people buy it if that's obtained by marketing at the youngsters, more power to Olympus. Max shooting rate: Mechanical shutter: 8.7fps until the card is full; Electronic shutter: 15fps for up to 42 raw files or 49 Large Fine Jpegs
The camera offers 8.7fps continuous shooting when using the mechanical shutter, and up to 15fps when using the electronic shutter with fixed focus, at the full 20MP resolution. This drops down to 5fps when using the camera’s image stabilisation system, or when using continuous AF. If you need compact and light and can forsake the speed, there's always the bargain-priced polycarbonate-cased 40-150. The Olympus Pen E-P7 has a native sensitivity range of ISO 200-6,400 and it’s worth keeping to that upper setting as a maximum. At ISO 6,400, both the Jpegs and the raw files have fine, evenly distributed luminance noise in the midtones and shadows. There’s no sign of clumping or banding and chroma noise isn’t problematic. Stepping above that value in low light results in increasingly grainy raw files and smudgy Jpegs. Olympus Pen E-P7 stabilisation AFAIK this is no longer a problem in the newer Olympus m43 models. It's an issue on the E-M5 and may be an issue on some of the other Oly m43 cameras that use the Sony sensor, but it's not an issue on the E-M1 (Panasonic sensor), and I'm pretty sure they've figured out how to avoid the issue on their more recent camera models. I certainly haven't heard any complaints about it on later m43 models. The PEN E-P7 is the latest Olympus mirrorless camera to feature capacitive touchscreen operation, although if you're not a fan you can for the most part get away without using it that much, as there are a number of physical buttons which are either dedicated to specific functions or can be customized to suit.
The top plate in fact looks reassuringly professional, with the new control dial almost matching the diameter of the mode dial and both featuring a ridged, edge. The on/off button is small and recessed with an LED at its centre, it’s also ridged, this time with radial groove in the top, Olympus has clearly paid a lot of attention to the details, and it’s a reassuringly practical blend of form and function. The menu system is similar to that of the professional OM-D E-M1. This is a complex, multi-level menu system that might not seem intuitive at first sight, especially to beginners, so reading the manual is a good idea before starting to explore it. No review of an Olympus PEN would be complete without taking a look at the varous effects modes on offer. In common with other PEN models the E-PL7 offers the full trange of 14 Art filters. Olympus was one of the first manufacturers to include in-camera filters in anything more advanced than a point and shoot compact and those on the PEN E-PL7 are among the best and most versatile around. The range has grown and there are now 14 available filters including Pop Art, Grainy Film, Pin Hole, Cross Process, Key Line and Partial Colour shown above. USB charging– the BLS-50 battery is shared with other Olympus cameras, rated for 360 shots per charge, and can be charged in camera. OPPO's mid-range smartphone aims to provide a sophisticated camera system at an attractive price. Andy Westlake sees how it measures up.
One reason I haven't upgraded the camera is that all the new Pens have fixed grips, and therefore worse handling. Thanks for the reply. It would seem that the E-P7 is certainly light enough, but it's not GM1 light or size. The E-P7 is for the person who has 1 camera that's usable and could be taken anywhere. I have a GM1, but the camera is a little fiddly for me- the E-P7 isn't and even compared to any PL- series PEN, it's much better with that extra dial and an extra customisable button. Also, it's better built than the PL PENs. The EP7 is the first ever camera released under this new ownership, although it's probably fair to assume that it was mostly developed by Olympus rather than OM Digital Solutions. For better IQ in the same price-range or even better price , go for APS-C sensor, and here is a list of most of people are buying: standard JEITA conditions) 140min (When repeatedly recording at the maximum time of 29 minutes, using M.Zuiko Digital ED 14‑42mm F3.5‑5.6 EZ, 4K video shooting)
During video recording the focusing is reasonably good, and although it doesn’t adjust to changes in the subject distance quite as seamlessly as some other cameras, it isn’t prone to hunting or shifting unpredictably. Olympus Pen E-P7 image quality Although low-light shooting is typically not the forte of smaller sensors, the five-axis sensor shift image stabilization helps to keep ISO speeds low and gives you slightly longer handheld shutter speeds, which should produce cleaner results. As a travel-orientated camera, it’s also likely that you’ll primarily be shooting in good light, which makes its low-light credentials less of an issue.
For example, I wanted to adjust the microphone settings to switch on a wind filter, and instead of this being an option that I could easily find (most cameras list this separately somewhere), this option was inside the mic options, which includes (On, on with wind filter, and off). Olympus PEN E-P7 Screen I don't think that will ever come. The marketing campaign for E-PL7 suggests that Olympus is desperate to try and find a place in the market for PEN cameras. They haven't been selling well for a while, and lets not kid ourselves, PL7 won't win with iPhone as a selfie camera. I will be very surprised if PL7 succeeds in the market. Combined with the 14-42mm EZ pancake lens, the E-P7 is a compact, go-anywhere camera, that produces some great looking images, but the price is hard to swallow.
Here are some sample photos. I don't pixel peep so forgive me if I don't do this camera justice. I also reduced the sharpness in post. Olympus PEN E-P7, Billigoat Designs, 14-42mm lens @17mm, 1.3s, f/7.1, ISO200, turning off noise reduction, and stopping down the lens improves detail captured
